Mr. Sek Wannamethee, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Royal Thai Embassy, is delighted to invite China Society members and friends to a diplomatic dialogue and an exotic Thai dinner at the Royal Thai Embassy. Mr. Wannamethee will give an overview of Thailand’s role in ASEAN including ASEAN-US relations.

Registration will begin at 6:15 pm. After introduction, Mr. Wannamethee will make his presentation. This will be followed by an open discussion followed by a Thai buffet.

Mr. Sek Wannamethee has served as Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C. since August 2009. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in 1991 and served as a Third Secretary at the Department of South Asia, Middle East and African Affairs. In 1993, he became a Second Secretary at the Office of Deputy Foreign Minister. In 1995, he moved to the Department of Information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1996, he was assigned to serve at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations in Geneva. During his 4-year term in Geneva, the positions he held at UNCTAD included Rapporteur of the Session of Trade and Development Board, Coordinator and Spokesperson for Asian Group and the Coordinator for the Group of 77. In 2000, Mr. Wannamethee served as a First Secretary at the Department of ASEAN Affairs. From 2001 to 2005, he was appointed Counselor and then Minister-Counselor and the Deputy Chief of Staff at the Office of Minister of Foreign Affairs. In 2005 he was seconded to the Office of the Prime Minister, serving as the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Prime Minister. In 2006 he became Director of the Division 3 (ASEAN Economic Affairs Cooperation) of the Department of ASEAN Affairs. In 2007, Mr. Wannamethee was appointed Director of the Office of Policy and Planning. He received his Bachelor and M-Phil Degrees in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
